Speciality Fibres and Materials Ltd

SFM has a history of innovation in fibre and fabric development. Working in close collaboration with partners, our experienced and innovative development team focus on creating new fibres and fabrics to improve product performance, reduce costs or satisfy unmet needs.  Our development facility in the heart of the UK offers pilot and full production operation for fibre spinning and nonwoven development including:

  • Wet and melt fibre spinning lines and equipment for the chemical modification of fibres to provide prototyping, development and full production of fibres.
  • Pilot non-woven textile lines located in a Class 8 clean room for easy and rapid prototyping, development and commercialisation of fabrics.
  • A well-equipped laboratory with a broad range of polymer, fibre and nonwovens testing capabilities.

Working to recognised standards such as ISO13485 and with knowledge of regulatory submissions for Class III medical devices through the achievement of 510(k) clearances, SFM have experience of developing novel fibres and non-woven fabrics at the forefront of technology.  Working collaboratively with customers to ensure the development meets their expectations, projects have been successfully completed on time.

SFM’s flexible approach allows customers to drive the means and process flow on collaboration projects.  Typically this results in a work-flow as illustrated below:
